When you have been to Longyearbyen, the main port of Spitsbergen, there is a good chance you will know the location of this place in Nybyen, literally at the end of the road. From here it is straight onto the local glacier into perfect nomansland. These cabins were once used as the lodging for people working in the mines around these towns. From Nybyen you are practically surrounded with ancient mine shafts. Upon the hill nearby stands the biggest construction that is reasonably easy acces, Mine 2B. It’s still a steep climb and a visit at your own risk place, but it’s worth it as you will find the feeling and atmosphere of days gone by.
If you buy a fine art print or limited edition of this image, 10% of the profit will be donated to APECS. This is an organisation which supports early career scientists in their research. Many members of APECS helped me in creating the images in the Touch base project. We all depend on future science. By donating some of my earnings I can do something back to support them.
