Since a couple of years I have followed the work of instrument maker Rob van den Broek. We came in closer contact via mutual friends at concerts and a while later I payed him a visit in his studio in the low lands of the Dutch Flevopolder. I had already been captivated by his instruments during the live shows, but now I could witness many more instruments and got further inspired. We talked about many things and Rob agreed to take very long exposure images in his studio, so I left a few pinhole cameras. The work on a new set of instruments, for a music piece by composer Maxim Shalygin had just begun, the premiere would be set to spring 2021 so we decided this could be the timeframe in which the images will be exposed. This makes the story of one image fall within the time frame of constructing the instruments for Severade. Those images you will find in the category Artist Space.

Then came the day of the premiere, and this image is from that day. The photos show the movement of people and the construction of the instruments.

The piece is composed for Cello Octet Amsterdam and soloist Maya Fridman

This image was taken with expired film from the 2000’s in an Agfa Box Camera from the 1930’s.
