While working in Iceland for the project Touch base, arctic solargraphy, we had to hike to this old farm and install some pinhole camera’s. The weather was still very unpredictable and as we were on site some snow started to fall. I was surprised, how quickly the landscape changed. In just a few minutes your sense of direction changes because of the mist and snow, and because of the sudden white meadows. Our trail was luckily not very difficult, we just needed to go in a straight line back, but since we did not know the area well, it was still an interesting afternoon.
I took this image with my wife’s iphone, a quick panorama swipe across the landscape. When creating this website, initially, I wanted to include only analogue images in my archive, but the feeling this capture brings about is still one of wonder and I feel it’s magical enough to share. Especially when printed large and being up close, it feels like being back at that location, in the middle of that heavy snow fall.
