One of the absolute favourite places I have had the pleasure to visit is the area of Skalanes nature reserve near Seydisfjordur on the very eastern tip of Iceland. For the project Touch base I could mostly distribute camera’s via the science network of Interact, but a combined work trip allowed me to visit this place myself. The station manager is also the owner of the site and he allowed me to stay in the house for a few nights in order to set up my camera’s. After two performances of our show Shapes of time in Reykjavik we took off. First to the north to visit the Interact head quarters in Akureyri and next up to this remote and magical place in the east.
This image was created for the project Touch base, arctic solargraphy. A global ‘science meets art’ photography project I conducted during 2019-2020.
If you buy a high resolution print or limited edition of this image, 10% of the profit will be donated to APECS. This is an organisation which supports early career scientists in their research. Many members of APECS helped me in creating the images in the Touch base project. We all depend on future science. By donating some of my earnings I can do something back to support them.
