Ny-Ålesund is a village in the north of Spitsbergen. It is a very special place as it is run as an international science village. There is a museum and a post office, a bar, a gym and a kantine. Tourists are allowed to visit from organised cruises, but can not stay here. Many countries organise an arctic station from here, as do the Dutch. For the project Shapes of time I could collaborate with Maarten Loonen, who is running the arctic station for the Netherlands. He helped create this image. I sent the pinhole camera to him which he installed and set to a recording of 55 days while he was working there. After this period we met for the arctic expedition SEES NL and I could add them to my collection for Shapes of time.
If you buy a fine art print or limited edition of this image, 10% of the profit will be donated to APECS. This is an organisation which supports early career scientists in their research. Many members of APECS helped me in creating the images in the Touch base project. We all depend on future science. By donating some of my earnings I can do something back to support them.
Mark Haanstra & Oene van Geel have created a music album named after the photo series, Shapes of time. Each photo was an inspiration for a music composition. Shapes of time is also a performed with the photographs translated to animated backgrounds.
The image will be printed onto Hahnemühle Natural Line Fine Art Paper based on hemp and using the Epson Sure Color Printing technique. Your art product comes with an original Udo signature sticker.
